As a final part of FCP creative process we got divided into groups of 8 and had to come up with an outcome. We had to take 3 photographs based on words we described Vouge photoshoot with and accessory we got. Also we had to write artist statement as a story behind the photos we took.
My group got Vouge photoshoot from March 2015 called The New Nomad. Here are some pictures from it.
Photos were taken by Juergen Teller on a small Greek island.
Our five words were 'chaotic culture', 'uncontained', 'playful realism', 'unconventional beauty', 'stark contrast' and our fashion accessory were glasses. The photoshoot took place in various locations around Nottingham. Inspired by the key concepts of chaotic culture, stark contrast and disarray, we decided to visit the oriental supermarkets in Hockley and the Victoria Centre market due to them being busy environments and rich with culture. Our initial prompt was an editorial which prompted us to create a photoshoot that rejects the mainstream order of fashion and embraces confusion and color. We all agreed that the images evoked the idea of finding beauty in the most mundane of places, this is why we chose to disregard using a photo studio and instead we took our pictures in an everyday environment. The first two images include a Chinese newspaper article that we picked up at the market and incorporated the images we took, these two are followed by the receipt for the paper featuring the glasses we used as a prop in our images. The newspaper and receipt represent the idea of everyday objects that can be used for more interesting things.
The main reason we were so happy about this photoshoot and our outcome is May May. She is one extra kind and sweet Chinese lady you can see on first photograph. She is the owner of small shop in the Victoria Centre market and she was willing to pose for our photos. We talked for a bit and realized that she is one very interesting woman and how exciting it is to do projects with new people in it and how easily you can find new friends no matter how different they can seem at the first sight.
Also here are two of my favorite sets of photos I found when we had an exhibition at uni. Hope you like how talented my friends are!
